Partnership aims

To demonstrate and promote the benefits of outdoor learning

To alert decision makers to the decline of outdoor learning in Scotland and beyond, especially first hand experience of the natural world.

To secure a commitment to outdoor learning from the current Scottish Government, and other decision makers at national and local level.

To ensure that policies are developed which encourage and enable outdoor learning in all its varied forms.

To ensure the current Scottish Government deliver core elements of ‘Learning for Our Future: Scotland’s First Action Plan for the UN Decade for Sustainable Development’
What Needs to be Done?

The Real World Learning Scotland Partnership is looking to the Scottish Government supported by other relevant Government Departments, to address the barriers to outdoor learning and:
- Provide the necessary leadership and direction to schools
- Ensure financial support for outdoor learning
- Equip teachers with the necessary knowledge and skills
- Address teachers' concerns regarding risk management
- Ensure HMIe inspection frameworks recognise and encourage outdoor learning
- Ensure quality outdoor spaces are created in new schools
- Work in partnership with existing providers to deliver a Curriculum for Excellence outdoors
